Shah Rukh said he has sent an apology letter to Gavaskar.

“I have not said anything against Gavaskar. My comments were for people who don’t understand cricket and are still telling me how to run the team.”

“I wanted to have a breathing space to try something new. I have sent him an apology letter if Gavaskar felt so because he was in America at that time,” Shah Rukh said before leaving for

South Africa.

Shah Rukh said he has great regard for the cricketer.

“If Gavaskar asks me to walk on my head and run the team, I would. Any thing that Gavaskar says that has to do with cricket, if he mentions, should be followed,” he said.

“It’s a game which Gavaskar may not have played. But still I know his knowledge would be enough to make a comment on T20,” Shah Rukh said.

Gavaskar has criticised Buchanan and questioned his credibility as cricket coach. The former Australian coach said he will try out different players as captain in the second season of IPL to share the workload and welcome fresh ideas. It sparked a huge controversy with current KKR skipper Sourav Ganguly raising doubts over the feasibility of such a plan.

Gavaskar, in a newspaper column, said too much importance is being given to the Australian, who is a failed first-class cricketer.

At this Shah Rukh reacted angrily saying: “I have spent a lot of money on my team. If you have a problem then you buy your own team and run it the way you want. I have great respect for Gavaskar. I have grown up enjoying his performance. We all respect him too much but, having said that, Twenty20 cricket is a new format and the last time we did not do well after going the traditional way (one captain),” Shah Rukh.
