“The requirement of spectrum for both commercial and army use is on the rise. For security reasons, military requirements have to be addressed with priority,” Kapoor told reporters at an international seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.

The army chief also underscored the need for availability of spectrum for setting up of an optimal battlefield management system, saying this was essential for Indian security forces, which are today upgrading their legacy communication systems.

“More importantly, we have to ensure suitable networking between the communications systems of various security agencies that will ensure availability of real-time data in real-time situations,” Kapoor said.

The two-day seminar is being jointly organised by CII and the Indian Army’s Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS).
