Kolkata : A total of 74 nominations have been filed for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in 17 of the 42 constituencies of West Bengal till Thursday.
The maximum nominations – seven – have been received for the Krishnanagar and Uluberia seats, while only one candidate each filed papers for the Kanthi and Asansol seats.
The nomination process for the second phase of polls in the state began April 11. The nominations close April 18, while the papers will be scrutinised April 20. April 22 is the last date for withdrawal, with the polls slated for May 7.
A total of 131 candidates are in fray for the 14 seats in the first phase of polls scheduled to be held April 30.
The third and last phase involving 11 constituencies is May 13.
According to election officials, 16,891,203 people are eligible to vote at 21,804 booths for the first phase and 21,679,507 people at 27,170 booths for the second phase. The third and final round has a voter strength of 13,791,965, and 17,135 booths.
