Lucknow : Nine senior officials in Uttar Pradesh were putting pressure on district authorities to ensure victory of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates in the Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh alleged Saturday.
“A team of nine officials attached with the chief minister’s secretariat is exerting pressure on district authorities to make BSP candidates win in the polls,” Singh said at a press conference here.
Free and fair elections in the state can only be conducted after the removal of such officials, he added.
Amar Singh demanded that the Election Commission scan telephone calls made by the nine officials to the district authorities. “It will prove that my allegations are not baseless.”
Asked to comment on his party leader Sanjay Dutt’s controversial remarks on Chief Minister Mayawati, Singh said the Bollywood star never made any objectionable comments.
“He did not utter the word pappi (Kiss) as Mayawati is like a mother,” said Singh.
In an election rally in Pratapgarh district Thursday, Dutt had reprotedly said: “Main Mayawatiji ko jaadu ki jhappi aur pappi dono doonga (I will give both a ‘magic hug’ and a kiss to Mayawati).”
