Shimla : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal’s son and sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur Monday filed his nomination papers from Hamirpur constituency.
Thakur, who is contesting the parliamentary elections for the second time, has been pitted against former BJP leader Narinder Thakur, who joined the Congress recently.
The BJP’s Suresh Chandel had won the Hamirpur seat in the 2004 polls but was suspended after the cash-for-queries scam in parliament.
Dhumal won the by-election in 2007 but quit when he was elected the chief minister.
Thakur won the by-election in May 2008 by 174,666 votes, defeating Congress candidate O.P. Rattan.
Meanwhile, BJP legislator Rajan Sushant also filed his nomination from Kangra constituency.
Sushant, who is the legislator from Jawali assembly segment in Kangra district, is contesting against sitting Congress sitting MP Chander Kumar.
Himachal Pradesh goes to the polls May 13.
