“We arrested D.K. Gupta from Abohar on Wednesday night, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000 from Naveen Sethi,” CBI Deputy Inspector General Mahesh Aggarwal told IANS.

Gupta was later brought to Chandigarh for questioning, he added.

Aggarwal said: “After the arrest, we have sealed his house in Bathinda, lockers and bank accounts. During the raid at his house today (Thursday), we recovered Rs.10 lakh (Rs.1 million) in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs.11 lakh (Rs.1.1 million) and documents pertaining to recent purchase of property.”

He said that Gupta was blackmailing Sethi, a businessman, and was threatening to initiate a tax-related enquiry against him on some false pretext. “He was demanding Rs.1 lakh (Rs.100,000) from Sethi but the final deal was struck for Rs.30,000,” Aggarwal said.

Abohar town is around 300 km from here.
