Khwaja Khayyum Anwar, Managing Editor of renowned Urdu daily Munsif, is in the fray for Medak Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh on Praja Rajyam Party ticket. Once represented by Indira Gandhi Medak has about 12% Muslim population.
Name: Khwaja Khayyum Anwar
Party: Soon after the formation of Praja Rajyam Party by Telugu film actor Chiranjeevi I joined the party and am now contesting Lok Sabha election on its ticket.
Constituency: Medak Lok Sabha seat which was being represented in the 14th Lok Sabha by A. Narendra of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). Muslims constitute about 12% of the population. Voting took place on April 16. It is in Telangana region. Movement for Telangana was started here by TRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Profession: Journalist. Currently Managing Editor of renowned Urdu daily Munsif
Education: Law Graduate
Achievements: I have done a lot of work in social sector, education and in the field of journalism.
Reasons for going into politics: There was a feeling that now people want a change. They have seen Telugu Desam as well as Congress. After formation of Praja Rajyam Party people pinned their hope on it as the party gave a slogan of social justice. We observed and found that the party leader Chiranjeevi was doing what he was saying. So we decided to join it and politics.
Issues that are important: Medak Lok Sabha constituency is famous as it was once represented by Indira Gandhi also. Though very near to state capital of Hyderabad, it is very backward area. Major issues include unemployment and lack of proper communication system, not even proper rail connectivity. The Manjira River is major source of irrigation and drinking water for the area. The water is supplied to twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad leaving aside Medak while pipelines cross Sangareddi, the district headquarters of Medak.
If you win, what will be your priority as an MP?: My priority will be to improve facilities for transportation, communication, irrigation and education.
