“The Panchen Lama is in the custody of the Chinese for the past 14 years… The PRC (People’s Republic of China) is still not disclosing the whereabouts of the youngest political prisoner,” Tibetan Youth Congress general secretary Passang Tenzin told IANS.
“We urge the international community to force China to release the Panchen Lama immediately,” he said.
However, the Chinese have recognised Gyaltsen Norbu, 19, as the 11th incarnation of the Panchen Lama.
The Tibetan-government-in exile is based here since 1959 when the Dalai Lama fled Tibet and sought sanctuary in India. Around 100,000 Tibetans live across India. The Tibetan-government-in exile is not recognised by any country in the world.
