Vikram Srivastava, director general of the ITBP, inaugurated the new headquarter of special frontier, in West Block of R.K. Puram. The ITBP also looks after the security of the vice president’s house, Parliament House and some key VVIP or high-security installations.

“Special frontier headquarter will certainly be an asset for ITBP. It will ensure better supervision and control over the very important and sensitive assignments and special duties being done by ITBP,” Srivastava said.

ITBP Inspector General D.K. Sharma has been assigned the task to head the special frontier, which has three sectors and 12 units under its command.

A senior ITBP official said earlier the unit which looked after the security of the President’s Estate was based in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. The units which looked after the security for the vice president’s house and the Tihar jail were based in Jammu. The VIP and parliament security units were based in the national capital.

“Now every unit will come under one roof. It will help in taking quick decisions and better coordination among all these units,” said the officer.
