“I will never backtrack from my decision to promote and strengthen nationalism. For this, I don’t care if NSA is imposed on me one time or four times,” Varun Gandhi said at an election rally in Shahjahanpur, over 250 km from here.

The 29-year-old BJP leader is facing charges under the NSA slapped on him by the Uttar Pradesh government for his alleged anti-Muslim remarks at election rallies last month.

He said the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh was “busy undertaking projects for its personal gains” at the cost of poor and downtrodden people in the state.

Varun alleged that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government was misusing funds in the name of constructing parks and buildings.

“The government should stop misusing the funds and provide jobs to youth.”

The BJP Lok Sabha candidate for Pilibhit constituency also addressed a rally at Aonla in Bareilly district. His mother and former union minister Maneka Gandhi is contesting on the BJP ticket from the Aonla constituency.

In Aonla, Varun Gandhi asked the voters to elect Maneka and let her win by a margin of around 400,000 votes.
