Greater Noida : A man was arrested here for posing as an additional director general (ADG) of the Haryana Police and attempting to secure the release of a person who was booked for power theft, police said Wednesday.
Mukesh Kaushik, 35, manager with a private packaging company, was arrested late Tuesday for impersonating as the ADG of Haryana Police and attempting to secure the release of Pramod Tiwari, who was arrested Monday for stealing power, police said.
Kaushik approached the police post Tuesday and claiming to be the ADG of the Haryana Police asked the office-in-charge to release Tiwari, police said.
The police officer, however, asked Kaushik to seek permission from his senior officer, and when Kaushik showed hesitation, the officer asked for Kaushik’s card, on which the name of Sharad Kumar ADG (crime) Haryana Police was printed.
The officer asked Kaushik to accompany him to the police station to meet his senior officer. When Kaushik refused, the officer grew suspicious and took him into custody.
Kaushik confessed to his crime and has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.
