New Delhi: A criminal wanted in over 40 cases in three states was arrested Saturday along with one of his accomplices, police said.
According to police, Kamaljeet Chopra alias Bitto, 36, and his accomplish Shakeel, 30, were arrested in south Delhi after a shoot out. Two automatic pistols, 14 catridges and three stolen motor cycles were seized from them. Police claimed that the duo were planning to loot a bank cash-van.
Bitto, who was one of the criminals who had managed to escape after a shoot out with the police in broad day light in the busy Green Park area Jan 19, 2009, carried a reward of Rs.50,000 on him.
His gang was involved in criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, robbery in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, police said.
“This gang had committed robberies at several banks, petrol pumps, and jewellery shops all over Delhi, Rajasthan, and UP during the last one year,” a police official said.
