Hyderabad: The last rites of a police constable who died under mysterious circumstances while serving as an “orderly” at the house of a senior police officer’s daughter in Noida, were performed with state honours here Tuesday.
P. Muralinath, a constable of the armed reserve who was assigned as a driver to the chief of special anti-terror force Octopus, was found dead July 30.
The body of the 42-year-old was buried at Jaithpur village near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh while the family was informed of his death only Sunday. The body was later exhumed and brought to his home here early Tuesday.
The cop was sent to Noida 10 days ago to work as an “orderly” at the house of the daughter of Additional Director General of Police (Octopus) Vivek Dube.
The family of the constable alleged that he was physically and mentally harassed. The family members and some Dalit groups staged a protest against the police top brass, demanding that a case be filed against Dube under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
There were heated arguments between the protestors and some police officials who reached to pay their last respects to the cop.
Earlier, a second autopsy was performed on Muralinath’s body at Osmania Hospital. The first autopsy was done before the cop was buried near Gwalior.
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Monday ordered high-level probe into the death of Muralinath.
A three-member committee comprising the chief secretary, the director general of police and the home secretary has been asked to submit its report within a week.
The State Human Rights Commission has also directed the state government to submit a report on the incident.
