Kolkata: Kolkata Dock System of the Kolkata Port Trust has handled a record high monthly volume of container traffic of 34,287 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, a company release said here Wednesday.
“Kolkata Dock System has set a new landmark in handling the highest container traffic in a single month since its inception in 1977, surpassing its previous handling record of 33,219 TEUs handled in June, 2009,” the release said.
During April-July 2009 it handled 1,24,886 TEUs against 102,723 TEUs during the corresponding period a year ago, reflecting a growth of 21.57 percent.
“This notable improvement of containerization at Kolkata Dock System has been possible due to the multi-dimensional measures taken recently for improving the operational efficiency of the Container Terminal of Kolkata Dock System,” the statement added.
