Jeev slips to tied 36th at WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

Akron (Ohio): A short pitch that ended in the water followed by another mistake saw Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh land a triple bogey enroute a one-over 71 that slipped him to tied 36th at the halfway mark of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Jeev’s misfortunes all seemed to collect at the 16th after he started on the 10th tee. He parred six in a row and then on the 16th he hit his third shot into the water while trying to pitch over it from just over a 100 yards away. He took a penalty and then took three more from the edge of the green to hole out in eight. He also had a three-putt from short distance for another bogey on the 18th here Friday.

On his second nine, the front half of the Firestone Country Club, Jeev had birdies on the second and sixth and a bogey on third for his 71.

Jeev, playing his first tournament on return from a intercostal muscle injury which has bothered him for almost two months, has total of one-over 141 after two rounds.

Two-time British Open champion, Irishman Padraig Harrington maintained his position at the top, as he held a one-stroke lead after returning a 69 in the second round. Harrington totalled seven-under 133. South African Tim Clark (68) occupied the second spot.

Tiger Woods is tied for 13th with rounds of 68 and 70, while Phil Mickelson, who missed the British Open on account of his wife, Amy’s treatment for breast cancer, is tied 22nd with rounds of 70 and 69.

Asia’s best was Prayad Marksaeng who added a 70 to his first round 66 and was tied for fourth with Steve Stricker (67-69).
