Court pulls up government for delay in hearing parole appeals

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Monday pulled up the government for delay in deciding the parole pleas of convicts and asked the deputy home secretary to appear before the court and explain the delay.

Issuing a notice to the deputy home secretary, Justice Kailash Gambhir asked him to appear before the court Sep 1 and explain as to why there is a significant delay in deciding the pleas of convicts and undertrials lodged in jails.

The court also pulled up the government for adopting delay tactics in deciding the parole pleas of the convicts.

The court’s remark came on the petition of Tegh Bahadur Pandey, who had filed a plea for granting him parole.
