Consisting of wheat, lentils and vegetable oil, USAID’s second shipment of vital food aid this year will be consigned to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and will fulfill the essential food needs of 300,000 people for four months, a US embassy statement said.

All these people were displaced by months of fighting between the military and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and now live in camps.

With this latest donation, USAID has provided nearly $59 million of food aid in 2008 and 2009.
