Kolkata: Two people, including a woman, have been arrested here for their alleged involvement in a racket for supplying arms to insurgents in the country’s northeast.
The arrest of Malswan Kimi and George Lam Thang under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act followed a tip-off from the newly set-up National Investigation Agency (NIA) which had been keeping a close watch on them.
The two were picked up by the Special Task Force of the state police from a hotel in the city hub of Esplanade.
“They were involved in supplying arms to some northeast India based terrorist outfits,” said Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department-1) of city police Jawed Shamim.
Police also seized some vital documents and cash of Rs.238,000 from them, he said.
