Kolkata: Indian cricket star Harbhajan Singh Sunday landed in the city wearing a mask and also appealed to people to take proper precautionary measures against swine flu.
Harbhajan, on a visit to a neighbouring district to inaugurate a hospital, created quite a stir at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport when he was seen donning a swine flu mask.
The lenspersons started frantically clicking, while the electronic media cameramen rushed for a vantage point to get the best footage.
Later, after the function at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district, Harbhajan said: “Not only here, in Delhi also I had worn this mask. We all have to be careful to prevent swine flu. Every member of society should take proper precautionary measures.”
Asked if the Indian cricket board has issued any guidelines to the cricketers on swine flu, the 29-year-old off spinner from Jalandhar replied in the negative.
Thirty-nine people have been afflicted with swine flu in West Bengal so far. But there are no fatalities. Twenty-five people have died of the disease in India till Sunday.
