Kerala Organisation demands 10% reservation for Muslims

Kochi: Muslims should be given 10% reservation in central services and educational institutions as suggested by the Ranganath Misra Commission, said the Muslim Educational and Cultural Association (MECA). The organization also called for the tabling of the Misra Commission Report in the Parliament, the inclusion of community and caste while collecting data for census and the publication of a list of all government servants with their community and caste marked on it. The demands were made in the 20th annual celebrations of the organization held in Kochi.

The organization also demanded that the methods for ensuring the representation of the backward classes should be ensured by accelerating the procedures under the Article 16 (4) of the Constitution. The rate of reservation and order of rotation should be re-scheduled, the MECA suggested as part of its list of 30 demands.



The programme was inaugurated by MI Shanavas, MP of Wayanadu. M Aliyar Kutty, state president, presided over the conference. NK Ali, general secretary, presented the report. PMA Jabbar, organizing secretary, MA Samad, Dr PT Saidu Muhammed, ASA Razak, secretary, and KM Abdul Kareem spoke.

Prof E Abdul Rasheed, AA Latheef Mamood, PS Ashraf, AA Hakeem, TS Azeez, AS Kunhumuhammed, Dr M Usman, A JAbbarali, PT Abdussalam, K Liaqathali, KA Basheer, Dr MA Saleem, Basheer Ali, O Aliyar, M Muhameed Shameem, Dr MA Salam, AP Ibrahim, MP Muhammed and KM Pareethu took part in the discussion.
