The AIIMS administration received an anonymous call about ragging in the medical college’s hostel Friday and a complaint has been registered.

In a letter addressed to AIIMS director R.C. Deka and dean of students Rani Kumar after the surprise check, hostel wardens, junior and senior resident doctors alleged that senior students had been ragging their juniors.

“We are still inquiring into the case. There is no complaint from the freshers. There is no conclusive evidence of ragging yet. Nothing is in black or white. The hostel authorities had conducted a surprise check,” Kumar told IANS.

She explained: “They had received an anonymous call that students in a certain room were indulging in ragging. When they went for the check they found nothing in the mentioned room but continued their rounds in the hostel and found juniors and seniors in one room.”

The students concerned, however, said they were discussing “studies”.

Kumar is chairing the inquiry for the freshers while the hostel dean H.H. Das will be dealing with seniors during the inquiry.

The students’ dean said there had been no cases of ragging at AIIMS in the recent past adding “there is very strong vigilance and support from senior students to check ragging”.

The final report on the inquiry will be submitted to the director Tuesday, Kumar informed adding that “appropriate action will be taken thereafter”.
