“It’s not company policy not to recruit lady employees at project sites,” Jimmy Mogal, HCC vice president (corporate communications), told the state-run daily Kuensel.

The company recently made headlines when it said that it would not recruit female wet sweepers.

At a meeting held with the labour ministry on August 14, HCC representatives once again reiterated that they would not employ female wet sweepers on safety and security reasons.

“Various factors, such as separate accommodation and toilets, safety and security of women at site, which can be a constraint at times, need to be considered while providing employment,” Mogal said, adding “the company guidelines are not specific to various trades required at the project sites.
