Equal Opportunities Commission Bill to be tabled in next session of Parliament

New Delhi: For the protection of minorities the Congress led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre has decided to establish Equal Opportunities Commission. The purpose of this Commission is to look after all sorts of discrimination and problems faced by the minorities in the country. The Bill for the establishment of the proposed Equal Opportunities Commission will be tabled in the next session of the Parliament.

The Minister of State for Minority Affairs Salman Khursheed told that those belonging to any minority community and facing problems in their education, business, livelihood and housing can approach the Equal Opportunities Commission for the resolution of their problems. He said this to a delegation of All India Democratic Women’s Association led by Suhasini Ali. Salman Khursheed also ensured that the recommendations of the Sachar Committee shall also be taken up for action.

The delegation also submitted to the minister a charter of demand signed by seventy five thousand women. Mr. Khursheed informed the delegation that almost all of the demands mentioned in the charter including the Women’s Reservation Bill are part of the Congress led United Progressive Alliance government at the centre.
