New Delhi : Bodies of two boys who went missing last week, were Tuesday fished out from a seven feet trench in a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) park in the capital, police said.
The victims were identified as four-year-old Arshad and eight-year-old Arman. Both the children were neighbours and went missing from their Shakur Basti homes Nov 25.
Two days later a case of abduction was registered at the Sarswati Vihar police station.
The police said the bodies were discovered by some children who had gone to play in the MCD park. They found the victims’ bodies floating in the trench and raised an alarm.
The bodies were taken out of the water and sent to the Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital for post mortem examination.
The police suspect that the boys might have fallen into the trench while playing. Construction and repair work is under way at the park.
However, the families of the boys suspect that their children were first killed and then dumped into the trench.
“We have searched the park earlier and did not find anything. Our children have been killed first and then thrown into the trench. The police is downplaying the incident,” Arman’s father Mohammad Ismail said.
The police said they were waiting for the post mortem examination report.
Meanwhile MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
