Addressing reporters in Ahmedabad, the two also announced the formation of a citizens front aimed at articulating the problems of “suppressed government employees”.

“The Prabuddh Nagrik Shakti Manch is a non-political citizens forum which has been formed in response to an overwhelming demand for justice from sections of the government’s own employees,” they said.

Vaghela said that 200 organisations of government, semi-government and local self government employees have announced their support to the rally.

“The aim is to focus attention on the worsening state of governance as well as to take the wind out of the chief minister’s ambitious announcements,” the Congress leader added.

Vaghela quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the 1995 revolt against then chief minister Keshubhai Patel. Mehta resigned from the BJP just before the last assembly elections.
