Kolkata : Describing the union home ministry team’s decision to tour some violence-prone zones in West Bengal as “politically motivated”, the state’s ruling Left Front Tuesday said the delegation should either drop their plans or also go to areas where the Left cadres are victims of a Trinamool Congress-Maoist “nexus”.
Briefing media persons after a meeting of Left front partners, its chairman Biman Bose claimed the state government was doing “more than its bit” to maintain law and order, which is a state subject.
“The Left Front protests against the visit of the union home ministry team. Law and order is a state subject and the state government is doing more than its bit to maintain law and order. There is no need for the central team to visit the districts. This is politically motivated,” Bose said.
The LF chairman said that the central team should have limited itself to collecting information from the state government officers.
“But if they at all visit the districts, then they have to visit all violence-hit districts of the state. They should go to violence-prone zones of East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Burdwan districts where the Maoists and Trinamool Congress have an unholy nexus to slaughter innocent CPI-M supporters and workers,” he said.
The LF partners met to discuss their course of action on the political violence in the state and the response to the central team’s visit besides chalking out agitation plans against price rise of essentials.
Bose said the LF will organise a rally at the sprawling Brigade Parade ground in the heart of the city February next year to mobilise public opinion on price rise and “atrocities” being committed by the opposition parties on Left workers.
The left leaders will also organise protest rallies in Delhi on the issues.
The central home ministry team has been deputed to the state on a fact finding mission to check spiralling political violence.
The visit of the three-member delegation comes following persistent demand for central government intervention from Trinamool, which is the second largest member of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in Delhi.
