Two Pakistan Navy ships in Malaysia to participate in Maritime & Aerospace show

Langkawi, Malaysia : Two ships of the Pakistan Navy have arrived in this northern Malaysian resort island to participate in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2009 (Lima 2009).

The two ships, which will undertake several activities, including joint and passage exercises with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), are the PNS Moawin and PNS Khaibar, which arrived at Awana Porto Malai here Monday and will be in Langkawi until Sunday.

According to a Pakistan High Commission (embassy) statement issued here Tuesday, the ships will be open to visitors from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday.

The PNS Moawin is a Netherlands-made ship which was commissioned by the Pakistan Navy on July 28 July 1994 and has been an active unit of the 9th AUXIM Squadron since then. It is capable of replenishing task groups at sea.

It can carry fuel for about 180 frigate days at sea and with the help of onboard seeking helicopters, can meaningfully participate in naval operations.

The PNS Khaibar is the fourth of eight Type-21 Amazon-class frigates of the Pakistan Navy.
Acquired from Britain, it has undergone major modifications and up-gradation in its weapons and sensors.

The ship is capable of undertaking a variety of naval operations covering the entire spectrum of naval warfare.
