Lt. Gen. Ghosh takes over as army’s Western Command chief

Chandigarh : Lt. Gen. Shankar Ranjan Ghosh Thursday took over as the general officer commanding-in-chief of the Indian Army’s prestigious Western Command.

Ghosh replaces Lt. Gen. T.K. Sapru who retired Nov 30. Ghosh was given a guard of honour by 6 Sikh Regiment. He later laid a wreath at the soldiers’ memorial ‘Veer Smriti’.

Commissioned into the Indian Army in Nov 1971, Ghosh immediately saw action in the India-Pakistan war.

The Western Command looks after a large area of the country’s border with Pakistan in Punjab and Rajasthan and with China in Himachal Pradesh.
