Islamabad : More than nine security personnel and two suicide bombers were killed and over 50 others were wounded in Rawalpindi carnage at the time of Friday prayer, said officials.
Two suicide and grenade explosions hit a mosque on Friday in Rawalpindi city of Pakistan, killing and wounding several others.
According to initial reports by police and military sources, the worshippers were coming out of a mosque in Qasim market on Peshawar Road of the city after offering Friday prayer, when a hand-grenade explosion took place.
Only a minute later, they told KUNA, a huge suicide explosion took place inside the mosque. Ambulances could be seen rushing wounded and dead to nearby hospitals but no exact figures were immediately available.
According to police and security officials, two bombers were gunned down by the commandos.
They told KUNA that at leas nine security personnel, who were offering Friday prayer were killed and over 50 others were wounded in the explosions and firing incidents.
They said that after two blasts, militants sprayed indiscriminate fire at the worshippers. An exchange of fire was still taking place between the commandos and militants.
A local ARY news channel said that three militants were reportedly hiding and a search operation was being carried out against them.
