Chandigarh : A 65-year-old man has become the latest victim of the swine flu virus in Chandigarh that has reported 13 new H1N1 cases, officials said Monday.
The victim was a resident of Dadumajra village here and died in a government hospital late Sunday.
“This patient was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 on Saturday. He was on life support system and died yesterday (Sunday) evening,” a health official said.
“We have got 13 more confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) virus. We had collected their throat and nasal swab samples yesterday (Sunday) after they exhibited flu-like symptoms. Of these, seven are from Chandigarh while four are from Punjab and two are from Haryana,” he added.
The patients include a doctor and three children, he said.
So far, 220 people have tested positive for swine flu in Chandigarh and this includes around 60 students and over 30 doctors.
Over 25 people have died due to the virus in city hospitals till date.
With the advent of winter, the number of swine flu cases has increased with over 10 deaths and 35 new cases of the virus reported in the last 10 days.
