Patna: Punjab has a glorious past of Muslims with their historical places and mosques still standing in many parts of the state. After the partition as majority of the Muslims of the state migrated to Pakistan, a number of masjids and Muslim religious places became isolated with none to offer prayers and take care of them.
Majlis-e-Ahrare-e-Islam Hind has been trying to revive the religious values of such deserted masjids since after the partition and it has succeeded to restore 100 mosques till the date.
The latest example was seen on 12th December in Ajitwal village of Moga district of Punjab, when three-century-old mosque of the village saw namazis after a long period of 62 years.
When on the initiative of Shahi Imam of Punjab Moulana Habibur Rehman Sani Ludhianvi Hindus and Sikhs nodded to hand over the mosque to the Muslims, the youth belonging to Hindus and Sikhs decided to repair the mosque and paint it.
It was a delightful movement when Hindus and Sikhs gave the key of the mosque to Shahi Imam. Thus, a mosque heard Azaan after a long hiatus. It, indeed, was a rare example of the communal harmony and a hard slap on the face of those politicians who are busy in dividing the communities in the name of religions and castes for their political gains.
Addressing a large gathering which included people of different religions, Shahi Imam acknowledged that Hindus and Sikhs of Punjab have been co-operating with the Muslims to renovate the masjids. This was because we have good relation among us and hold high respect towards religions of each others.
He also informed that like other mosques a maktab would be established with this mosque also and some Muslim families would be given accommodation in the locality to keep the mosque alive.
Mahinder Singh, Lakhbeer Singh, Bhopinder Singh, Ankit Kumar, Jitender Singh, Nojot Singh, Jagmeet Singh, Aman Deep Singh, Raheemuddin Khan, Babu Khan and Maulana Mumtaz were among the youths who rendered their great services to refurbish the mosque. For their noble work, they were given Nishan-e-Ejaz award
