Indian equities open lower after previous day losses

Mumbai: Indian equities opened lower Wednesday after a key index suffered a loss of over 220 points, or nearly 1.3 percent, on account of prevailing sentiments in other Asian markets.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened Wednesday at 16,866.95, against the previous close at 16,877.16 points, and was quoting lower at 16,831.97 points, some 5 minutes into trading.

At this level, the key index was down 45.19 points, or 0.27 percent.

The mood was similar at the National Stock Exchange (NSE), where the SNP CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,022.80 points, against the previous close at 5,033.05 points, with a loss of 0.20 percent, data with the exchange showed.
