Kochi: The move to arrest Abdunnasir Madani’s wife Soofiya is a part of conspiracy, said human rights activists in a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram.
It is not right to arrest a person because of accusation. Soofiya is not a political or social activist, but only a home-maker forced to come out of house in the inevitable situations created by her husband’s imprisonment. If some of the followers of Madani had done something wrong due to their anger at his prolonged jail-term, action should be taken against them and not against Soofiya who bore pain for nine and half years.
The followers of different political parties in Kerala have destroyed hundreds of vehicles in the name of several protest strikes. The police have not gone in search of the leaders or their wives related to those incidents. Neither the investigating officers nor others have said that Soofiya has taken part in the bus-burning. So it is clear that the move is to drag the case to Soofiya through a conspiracy. His political opponents are now trying to inflict pain on Madani and family.
Human rights activist Gro Vasu, Minority Rights Watch chairman Adv S Shanavas, general secretary MK Harikumar and Revolutionary Dalit Front leader Jyothish Perumpulikkal attended the press conference.
