“The Congress MLA, Rudra Kumar Guru, reached a police station at Arang village early Wednesday along with 24 of his supporters wielding hockey sticks and forcibly drove away a Tata Sumo vehicle that was seized Tuesday as it had been loaded with wine bottles,” Ramkumar Dube, in-charge of Arang police station, told reporters here.

Dube added: “The MLA and his supporters threatened policemen and forcibly took away the vehicle. We have registered a case against 25 persons, including the MLA, and police are trying to arrest them.”

The police station is located some 40 km from here and the vehicle reportedly owned by the legislator was carrying wine bottles which police believe were meant to be distributed among voters in the area to get support in civic bodies polls scheduled for Dec 21 and Dec 23.
