Islamabad : Pakistan Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar Monday denied he had offered to resign and termed such reports as “baseless rumours”.

Reports said the minister offered his resignation in protest after immigration staff prevented him Thursday night from leaving for China on an official visit because his name was on a list of people facing a travel ban after an amnesty law was scrapped.

But Mukhtar told Online news agency that it was a “rumour”.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) clarified later that the minister’s name was wrongly placed on the list and there were no restrictions on his travel.

He also claimed that he had not taken any benefit under the National Reconciliation Ordnance, which was struck down by the country’s apex court last week.
