Kolkata: Faced with Maoist insurgency in many districts, the West Bengal government Wednesday decided to set up a directorate for the security of important government functionaries.
An additional director general of police would head the directorate with a force of 500 policemen, a government official said after the state cabinet meeting.
The cabinet also decided to strengthen 21 police stations in the three Maoist-affected districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia, he said.
