Dubai : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reversed its decision on controversial Oval Test between England and Pakistan from a draw to an England win.
The 2006 Test was initially awarded to England by umpires Steve Bucknor and Billy Doctrove after Pakistan refused to take field in protest against ball-tampering charges.
The ICC amended that decision in July last year, calling the result as a draw after Pakistan Cricket Board strongly objected to the umpires’ decision.
But the change of result did not go well with the custodians of the laws of cricket, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
The governing body changed it again Sunday at the second day of an ICC board meeting in Perth.
“After reconsideration of the matter, which included consideration of legal advice and input from the MCC, the custodians of the Laws of Cricket, the ICC board decided that the original umpires’ decision to award the match to England, should apply,” ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.
The board had originally changed the result to “match abandoned as a draw” in July 2008.
“I’m gratified the board reached the conclusion it did as this ensures the integrity of the game and the Laws of Cricket have been upheld. I am especially grateful to the PCB for its understanding in this matter,” he said.
