Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja remanded the five in custody till Feb 4.

Mohammad Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zia-ur-Rehman, Saquib Nissar and Mohammad Shakeel were presented before the court, which ordered their detention in police custody for the first information report registered at the Connaught Place police station.

The prosecution had pressed for five days’ police custody on the ground that the police need to question them on the conspiracy behind planting bombs in the Connaught Place area.

The defence countered that the accused have already been in police remand for the last few months.

Counsel for Saqib pleaded before the court that his interim bail is already pending before the Delhi High Court and would come up for hearing Feb 4, and if he was sent to custody, the bail plea would become useless.

Saqib recently filed a petition in the Delhi High court for an interim bail to appear in the MBA examination.

Five FIRs were registered in the serial blasts, in which 26 people were killed.
