Markets extend losses in afternoon

Mumbai : Indian equities markets slipped further in the afternoon trade Thursday amid profit booking. Nearly 90 minutes before the closing bell, a key index was trading 1.82 percent lower than its previous close.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 9,241.56 points, was trading at 9,034.45 points, down 1.82 percent or 167.4 points.

The BSE midcap index was trading 0.94 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap was down 0.91 percent.

At the same time, the broader-based S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,758.2 points, 1.6 percent lower than its previous close of 2,803.05 points.
