Islamabad : The Pakistani insurgency had an intensive day of attacks in the northern and northwestern areas of the country on Wednesday, when UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was expected to arrive.
Capture of around 30 police agents in the northern Swat valley and destruction of eight NATO containers, stationed on a tribal corridor in the Northwestern Border Province were reported in Thursday’s early morning.
The agents were turned into prisoners after an over-24-hour clash at a police station in Shamozai.
Meanwhile, in another Pakistani spot, rebels deactivated a convoy that was trying to give provisions to the NATO troops stationed in Afghanistan.
The attackers took advantage of the fact that the caravan was parked near Landi Kotal town, capital of the Khvber demarcation, after blowing up a strategic bridge in that tribal demarcation on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s attack has been the fourth against the NATO supplies, since the paramilitary forces launched an operation against the insurgency in the area by the end of 2008.
