When the five cops were returning to the Bundu police station, rebels belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) detonated a landmine near a bridge situated under the Bundu block, around 70 km from here.

“The vehicle was thrown 10 feet in the air, injuring the policemen sitting in the vehicle. The intensity of the blast could be assessed from this,” the officer said.

He said the injured – three constables, one assistant sub-inspector and driver – have been admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, Ranchi.

The condition of two of those injured is serious, he added.

“The policemen were in an anti-landmine vehicle,” he said.

In Jharkhand, Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts in the state. More than 1,450 people have been killed in Maoist related violence in the last eight years.
