Government’s writ in Swat Valley at any cost: Gilani

Islamabad : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the government’s writ would be established in the Swat Valley at any cost, Pakistan’s Online news agency reported.

The security forces were undertaking operations against anti-state elements in the Swat, Gilani said while talking to Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani Thursday.

Issues related to the war against terrorism, upcoming visit of Kiyani to the US, US drone attacks in the country’s tribal areas, Pakistan-Afghan border situation, overall security situation in the country and other matters were also discussed during the meeting, sources said.

The prime minister added that US drone attacks in the country’s tribal areas were having negative impact on the country’s interests in the war against terrorism and asked the US to stop the attacks.

Commenting on the investigation into the Mumbai attacks, Gilani said that the probe has been completed.

Gilani said Pakistan was eager to resolve issues with India peacefully and through dialogue and that it wanted the Kashmir issue settled under UN resolutions and in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris.
