India urges UN to ensure that Pak fulfills commitment to end terror

New Delhi : While apprising the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon about the details of the Mumbai attacks which were carried out by elements based in Pakistan, India urged UN to ensure that Pak fulfills commitment to end terrorism emanating from its soil.

The Mumbai attacks came up for discussion when UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Thursday met External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

“I had a detailed discussions (with Ban) in the context of the terror attack on Mumbai and the material which we have given to Pakistan and shared with the entire international community by sending letters to Foreign Minister”, Pranab told reporters on the sideline of a conference on “Global Financial Crisis”.

“I requested the UN Secretary General to look into those aspects and ensure that Pakistan fully implements its own commitments which it has given to India and the international community several times,” Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee apprised Ban how 10 heavily armed Pakistani terrorists came from Karachi via sea to Mumbai and struck terror there for three days from November 26 last year.

Ban, who was here on a day-long visit to attend Sustainable Development Summit, also discussed situation in the region, particularly Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The UN Secretary General, was on his second visit here since October last year, also met UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and discussed regional situation.
