New Delhi : The Congress represents hope for the future, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told party workers Sunday and urged them to apprise voters about the achievements of the government in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. “With elections around the corner, you are once again called upon to carry the party’s message and the government’s accomplishments to each and every voter throughout the country,” the prime minister, recuperating from a heart surgery, said in his message that was read out at a convention of the Congress leaders here.
“We can tell them with confidence that the Congress represents hope for the future,” he said in his message read out by Congress general secretary Prithviraj Chavan.
Manmohan Singh also recounted the achievements of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
“We have tried to fulfil all promises that we made to the people in 2004. Each of our flagship programmes has helped to better the lives of the millions who live on the margins,” the prime minister said.
He talked about India’s responses to terrorism and global economic recession.
“We have responded purposively and with speed to terrorist attacks on our nation and our national values. In the midst of a global economic upheaval, we remain on the path of inclusive growth,” the prime minister said.
