Indian Vice-President visits Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw : The Chairman of Myanmar’s State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), Senior General Than Shwe, received a visiting Indian delegation led by Vice-President Shri M. Hamid Ansari at Bayintnaung Yeiktha here Friday.

Also present during the call were the Vice-Chairman of the SPDC, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye, SPDC member General Thura Shwe Mann of the Ministry of Defence, Prime Minister General Thein Sein, SPDC Secretary-1 Lieutenant-General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win, Deputy Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Major-General Thein Tun, Myanmar Ambassador to India U Kyi Thein, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Aloke Sen and senior government officials.

The Indian delegation left here for Yangon in the afternoon and was seen off at Nay Pyi Taw Airport by Vice-Senior General maung Aye, who is also Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and Army Commander-in-Chief, and his wife, Daw Mya Mya San.

Also at the airport were Gen. Thura Shwe Mann and Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and their wives, Commander of the Nay Pyi Taw Command, Major-General Wai Lwin, ministers and senior officials.

Before leaving, the Indian Vice-President and his wife, Shrimati Salma Ansari, planted a star flower tree at the National Herbal Garden here to mark the friendship between the two countries.

Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and his wife hosted a dinner in honour of the Indian delegation at Bayintnaung Yeiktha on Thursday.
