Ranchi : Jharkhand police have launched a poster campaign to take on the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) that has called for a 24-hour shutdown in the state.
CPI-Maoist called for the shutdown Monday in Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. In the last one month, this is the fourth shutdown called by a Maoist outfit.
Such calls have become a regular feature in the state, especially in rural areas.
A police officer said the poster campaign aims to “expose the misdeeds of the Maoists”. The posters have been put up in villages and roads across the state.
“These Maoist rebels kill truck drivers and their assistants during shutdowns. Maoist rebels try to put ban on freedom of people by calling shutdowns and claim they’re messiahs of poor people. Recognise the true face of Maoist rebels,” the posters said.
“We want villagers to lead a normal life during a shutdown. In urban areas people never bother about Maoist rebels’ shutdown calls. Once the villagers come forward too, the rebels will be pushed back to jungle areas,” a police officer said.
In Jharkhand, Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. More than 1,450 people have been killed in Maoist-related violence in the last eight years.
