Phoenix was selected as the symbol of Iran’s Islamic Revolution this year while Iranians are celebrating the 30th victory anniversary of the 1979 revolution. The celebrations would reach their climax on February 10 by massive ceremonies to be held nationwide.

The design was presented to public in a ceremony attended by First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi, head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei as well as local officials from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Addressing the ceremony, Mashaei said that the design was made on the Hormuz island as the island “is like a golden platform for the talented Iranian youth who want to display their capabilities.”

He praised the initiative to select the phoenix as the symbol of the Islamic revolution.

Meanwhile, head of the provincial office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Homayoon Amir-Zadeh told reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony that “local artists have chosen the medium of art as a reliable means to protect the name of the Persian Gulf from being distorted by the media of the world’s arrogant powers.”

“Making use of art is the best way to counter cultural invasion of the enemy,” Amir-Zadeh stressed.

The sand-made phoenix is the third work of Hormuz island’s artists. They have previously made a sand-made model of Iranian carpet shaped as the Persian Gulf and a model of the Gaza Strip.
