Richard Holbrooke meets Pakistani leaders

Islamabad : Richard Holbrooke, the US special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, met Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi here Tuesday, Geo TV reported.

President Zardari and Holbrooke discussed the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), war on terror, Indo-Pakistan tensions and Pakistan-US relations.

US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Patterson and Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir were also present at the meeting.

Holbrooke met Qureshi at the Foreign Office and discussed Pakistan-US relations and cooperation in the war on terror.

In the meeting, Holbrooke was informed about negative implications of the US drone attacks in Pakistan, Geo TV reported quoting sources.

The US diplomat was also told that Afghan war was having a negative impact in Pakistan’s tribal areas and enraging local population, it reported.
