Ranchi : Extra security arrangements were put in place around the governor house in the Jharkhand capital Wednesday, on the eve of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) proposed demonstration demanding fresh elections in the president ruled state.
The BJP has planned “Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo” agitation in front of the governor house to press its demand for dissolution of the state assembly and elections in the state.
“More than 100,000 party workers will attend the Thursday agitation. We will not allow anyone from governor house to come outside. We will block all the four gates of the house,” state BJP president Raghubar Das told reporters.
“This is will be an historic agitation… let the administration make efforts to prevent our workers from reaching the governor house. We will break barricades,” Das vowed.
Ahead of the BJP agitation, the administration beefed up the security around the governor house Wednesday.
More than 200 security personnel have been deployed in and around the Raj Bhavan, officials said.
According to officials, one company each of the Jharkhand Armed Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) and many riot vehicles will be deployed around the house Thursday.
The roads leading to the Raj Bhavan have also been barricaded, the official said.
The administration has also announced diversion of traffic on the routes leading to the governor house.
Jharkhand is under president’s rule since Jan 19 when Shibu Soren, then chief minister, stepped down following a defeat in a key by-election.
The Jharkhand assembly has been kept under suspended animation.
