Islamabad : The suspected terrorists arrested by the Pakistani authorities for their links with the Mumbai terror attacks will be tried inside a heavily fortified jail in Rawalpindi, a media report said Thursday.
To ensure maximum security, the government has directed “high level security” in Adiala jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, where the trial of the suspects will start, Dawn said quoting a source.
Rehman Malik, advisor to the prime minister on interior affairs, had said that a number of suspects from the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group had been captured for planning the Mumbai attacks and may be prosecuted.
The arrested suspects are to be handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The probe agency has requested the government for two bulletproof vehicles for transporting the suspects, the online edition of Dawn said.
The agency has also requested for a female officer to help them for investigation, the source told Dawn.
All the suspects would be kept in “high security barracks” specially build in Adiala jail.
The source said the FIA has also requested the federal government to deploy rangers along with them while going to Central jail Adiala, the source said.
The government is forming a panel of advocates to appear as special public prosecutors, however, their names are yet to be finalised.
Senior advocate Sardar Ishaq Khan is likely to be hired by the government to appear as special pubic prosecutor, Dawn said.
